Hath been condemned by the rulers, and then unjustly tried

 And the people chose a murderer, but Him they crucified?”

And when the Sabbath was done

Before the morning sun began to rise

There were three women of God

Came to care for the body of the Christ

And with sweet spices in hand

And with ointments they planned

To anoint Him to grave of men.

But when they came to the tomb

They found an empty room where He lay

And they were taken in fright

When an angel in white stood to say

“Weep not, you need not fear

For the Lord you seek is not here

But is risen, and lives again.”

Then He said as we wondered, “O fools and slow of heart

To believe all that the prophets were commanded to impart

Ought not the Christ to have suffered at the hands of sinful men

And give His life a ransom, then take it up again?”

Then He began from the scriptures expounding on all things

How Moses and the prophets had all testified of Him.

Then we drew nigh to the village, and He fain would travel on

“O no, abide with us” we said, “for the day is nearly gone.”

Then He went in for to tarry, and we all sat down to meat

And the Stranger blessed and brake the bread and gave to us to eat

Then were our eyes finally opened and every doubt then fled

The Lord, the God of heaven was now risen from the dead.

And when we finally knew 

He slipped away from our view out of sight

And we were left with our thoughts

O how had we not seen the light?

Did not our hearts burn within?

And did not happiness fill us again?

As we listened to the Words of Christ.

And as we went on our way 

To Emmaus that day of all days

We felt the voice of the Lord

Bearing witness of God and His ways

And His voice is small and still

Teaching all who will listen His will

By the power of the Holy Ghost

As we listen to the words of Christ

1. More holiness give me,

More strivings within,

More patience in suff’ring,

More sorrow for sin,

More faith in my Savior,

More sense of his care,

More joy in his service,

More purpose in prayer.

2.More gratitude give me,

More trust in the Lord,

More pride in his glory,

More pain at his grief,

More meekness in trial,

More praise for relief.

More strength to o’ercome,
